How to Get an Emergency USCIS Appointment (InfoPass)
Walk-in InfoPass appointments ended years ago, but USCIS still grants in-person appointments for genuine emergencies at field offices. You cannot book them online: they go through the Contact Center.
Situations That Usually Qualify
- ADIT stamp / I-551 stamp: proof of permanent residence when your green card is lost, expired or pending renewal and you need to work or travel
- Emergency advance parole: urgent travel for a family death, serious illness, or humanitarian reasons while your I-131 is pending
- Evidence of status required urgently for employment or benefits
- Certain court-ordered or time-critical document needs
How to Request One
- Call 1-800-375-5283 and get past the automated system: our live agent guide shows how.
- Explain the emergency specifically and ask for an in-person appointment at your local field office.
- The agent creates a service request; a Tier 2 officer or the field office calls you back to confirm date and time.
- Bring evidence of the emergency (medical letters, death certificate, travel itinerary) plus your ID and any USCIS notices.
Approval is discretionary. The clearer and better documented the urgency, the higher the chance the office accommodates you quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just show up at the field office without an appointment?
No. Security will not admit you without a scheduled appointment, and lobby staff cannot create one on the spot.
How fast are emergency appointments granted?
Documented emergencies (like imminent travel for a family emergency) are often scheduled within days. Non-urgent requests are redirected to normal channels.
